I am worried about your soul right now!
I hate talking about politics. It can be so divisive, and all the best counselors and psychiatrists tell me it's not worth the argument energy.
But I feel like every follower of Christ needs to draw the final line, and if this isn't enough, I wonder if it's too late to have this conversation. Our president used AI to represent himself as the glorified Jesus. He cast an idol of himself, and this isn't the first time. After calling himself a king of America (using a racist animal video), this is such low-hanging fruit to convict someone that this is breaking the first and second commandments.
I am worried. I am worried for your soul, MAGA supporter. I know scripture says I shouldn't be anxious, but I am deeply concerned. Polls have 33%-40% of America supporting this. 33% monotheists in the Judeo-Christian tradition are either ignoring this or finding a great reason to support it.
I am not worried that you don't understand how Jesus forgives sin to bring us into eternal life. I am worried that you don't want to participate in the full Gospel because your party lines won't allow you. I love that you care about unborn children and the freedom to bring God into institutions, but when are you going to address the 80% that Jesus cares about just as much?
I get it. The news can be harsh and unfair. People can twist things out of proportion, and that makes caring about policy ten times harder. But this!!! This is gloated. This is blasphemy. This is a cult that wants to be celebrated. The calls are coming from inside the house.
I get it. I could talk circles about blatant racism, police state crimes, and being held unaccountable for sexual sins until I am blue in the face. The arguments are always, "Well, that is what his opponents want you to believe." But this is something evil and senseless. It's not a smear job or a misrepresentation, it's a sitting president.
In scripture, there are stories of God's grace and favor leaving kings. King Saul was a hopeless case when God refused to support him. It led him to persecute, murder, and undergo a psychic consultation. God did not protect King David from the evil spirit of counting his army or adultery, and it cost him serious consequences. Pharaoh's desire to please his own gods hardened his heart, leading to his destruction. Some of them repented for their mistakes and were granted grace. Others doubled down on their sin, and it ended their legacy.
What is your conscience telling you right now?
Can you tell me, as a Jesus follower, that God is still in this administration's corner? Can you explain how he still has the blessing to be a light to the world and a strong leader for Christian ethics?
If yes, then I don't know if we are reading the same Bible.
For the record, I am not asking you to excuse sin on the other side, agree with socialism, or change your mind about pro-choice. I am just wondering if the Bible lessons you grew up with are telling you this isn't right. You are welcome to criticize it when the left does something similar, but please do not let this slip because someone promised lower egg prices in his campaign speech.
Praying that we meet Jesus with the same forgiveness and conviction.
